Brighton transfer chief explains exactly why Albion did not sign another striker

Ashworth rejected claims Brighton still require a striker, having scored eight goals in their opening four Premier League matches and six goals in three Carabao Cup fixtures. The Seagulls spent around £16m this summer as they brought in young Polish duo Michal Karbownik and Jakub Moder, who arrived on deadline day for a combined £10m but will be loaned back to Legia Warsaw and Pozan respectively. Adam Lallana signed on a free transfer from Liverpool and Dutch international Joel Veltman joined for just under £1m at the start of the window. Andi Zeqiri, a talented but inexperienced striker, arrived from Swiss club Lausanne-Sport for a reported £3.5m. However, many Albion fans were left underwhelmed by the transfer window and felt a more experienced forward would support the likes of Neal Maupay, Aaron Connolly, Leandro Trossard and Alireza Jahanbakhsh. "We have got four front players that we believe in," said Ashworth. "All of which scored goals last season, all of which have already scored goals this season. "Leo, Aaron, Neal and Ali and with Zeqiri coming in as well, that gives us a fifth. It allowed us to get Viktor (Gyökeres) out on loan. "Between the four of them, they had 20 plus goals last season and they have already started the season well. We have scored 10 in four games in the Premier League so far and a number of goals in the cup as well. "So we think we have got some good attacking options. We are making numerous chances and we are scoring goals. "People also think about it just solely with front players - the five I have mentioned. "But Lallana comes in and helps create chances. Lamptey comes in and has already won penalties and helped create chances and Solly in the wing back role as well. "We have lots of options it's not just being focused on player X,Y or Z as a centre forward. "Lots of really good options and good individuals as well. We are always looking but it's about multiple positions not just one position."
