Travellers' caravans set up camp in car park at Bexhill De La Warr Pavilion

Caravans and motorhomes that appeared in the car park by the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill have now left, police have confirmed today (Wednesday, May 22).

Up to nine travellers’ caravans were spotted yesterday morning (Tuesday, May 21) in the car park, spread out across the area.

Some of the vehicles had charging cables attached on the side and a few caravans took up several car parking spaces.

The car park is managed by Rother District Council.

A Rother District Council spokesperson confirmed that the caravans were travellers’ caravans and added that East Sussex County Council’s traveller liaison officer, Rother District Council officers and Sussex Police visited the site yesterday to ask the travellers to leave.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Sussex Police received a report of an unauthorised encampment at De La Warr Road, Bexhill, on May 21. Officers have worked in partnership with the local authority and engaged with the group, who have now departed from the location.”
