The restaurant is owned and run by Hasan Mahmudov and family, including his mother Kadrye. Hasan is Turkish but has 17 years of Italian kitchen experience, working all over Europe.
Hasan says his aim is to sell top quality food at an affordable price. Everything is made fresh with homemade pizzas and pastas. He makes real sourdough pizzas that take 72 hours to prove before they can be cooked in an authentic wood-fired oven.
The restaurant, which opened on May 13, also offers a selection of vegan pizzas and pasta dishes with gluten free options available.
Hasan said: “Our oven imported directly from Italy, is designed specifically to perfect the art of pizza-making. This state-of-the-art oven allows us to create pizzas with the characteristic charred crust and delicious, melty centre that you would expect from the streets of Naples.
"At La Cucina Hastings, we are more than just a restaurant; we are a place where food lovers and families come together to enjoy good company and great food. Our passion for Italian cuisine is reflected in every dish we serve, from our savoury pizzas to our rich, comforting pastas and perfectly folded calzones. Pizzas on the dish include an authentic Parmigiano and a Tartufo with San Marzano tomatoes, Fior Di Latte mozzarella, mixed mushrooms, Pecorino cheese and and truffle oil.
Customers seem to agree, with one diner commenting in a review: “A lovely new, small family business, that is worth supporting. They use fresh, quality ingredients and there is a nice atmosphere and great service. The cheesy garlic bread is a must and the homemade Tiramisu is legendary.”
