VILLAGE TIDY: The Parish Council has organised a village tidy to take place on Saturday April 23, 10.30am. Can you spare half an hour or so to help keep Etchingham tidy? Meet at the Market Square outside the village halls at 10.30, finishing up at the Bistro for a well-earned coffee. Gloves and high-viz jackets will be provided. A short Parish Council meeting, to deal with any urgent matters will be held at 6.30pm in the Parker Hall. This will be followed at 7pm by a presentation by Faustino Bayo, the Community Development Officer for Action in Rural Sussex “Neighbourhood Planning - Is it for your Community”. At 8pm it will be the Annual Parish Meeting, your chance to find out what the village, its societies and the Parish Council have been doing over the past year. To conclude the evening the Parish Council invite you to raise a glass and wish Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II a happy 90th birthday. More details here nearer the date, but if you are planning to enter photographs in the photo section of the Flower Show, these are the categories ‘Blue’ - ‘Ships, boats and things that float’ - ‘I saw it at the seaside’ - ‘Creatures of Etchingham (insects to homo sapiens)’, so get snapping. LANDSCAPE WALK: Following the success the last two years, Peter Miles will be repeating his Weald landscape walk on Sunday April 24, May 1 and May 8. The walk is based along the main ridgeway in Mountfield but is concerned with clues to why our local Wealden landscape looks as it does so it is, literally, parallel with the ridge landscape of Hurst Green and Etchingham. The walk covers old tracks and roads, woodland archaeology, medieval earthworks, quarries and minepits, woodland flowers including one rare plant, woodland crafts (and a rare tree), foraging and more. Duration about three hours, distance two miles, easy walking, entirely on private land which is not normally accessible, purpose serious but emphasis on fun.
