Saxons continue decent run
Goals from Alex Coombs, Harry Reece and Toby Reed maintained Saxons’ unbeaten record in 2015 and moved them up to fourth in Sussex Open Hockey League Division One.
The visitors started with 1o men and Saxons began confidently. A string of chances fell Saxons’ way, but they were unable to make them count until man of the match Coombs scored with a drag flick from a short corner earned by good work from Jon Meredith.

Hide AdBy this stage St Francis were back up to 11 players, but Saxons continued to apply the pressure. Good work from Will Orr and Busbridge allowed Reece space to waltz around a number of defenders and unleash a sweet strike into the far corner.
The away side grabbed one back against the run of play, but despite conceding for the first time in three matches, Saxons weren’t to be denied a sixth successive home win.
Another short corner after a whole host of missed opportunities resulted in a classic Reed finish from a Coombs pass. Saxons went in search of more goals against second-bottom opposition only to spurn yet more chances.

Paddy Cornish and Tudor Stainsby will return for what’s sure to be a tough trip to sixth-placed Hailsham this coming Saturday in place of Will Orr and Dom Ford.
