Lions legend delights rugby fans
The popular former Bath, England and British Lions prop keenly delivered a compellingly humorous 45 minute long speech that had the three figure gathering at the Cinque Ports Hotel, Hastings, in raptures.
Chilcott, who won 14 England caps between 1984-89 and 14 trophies at Bath, recalled a string of amusing tales from such occasions as his England debut against the mighty Australians, a crunch Five Nations match against Ireland in '87 and the Lions' tour Down Under in '89.

The audience seemed very appreciative and I was made to feel very welcome. The food was absolutely outstanding, the organisation was great and the whole package was brilliant."
With such tremendous ability to generate interest and entertain, it was easy to see why Chilcott has become such a popular and respected after dinner speaker at events all over the country. Since bringing the curtain down on his playing days, he has also made numerous television appearances as a commentator and actor, performed in pantomimes and become a partner with a company specialising in rugby holidays abroad.
Chilcott came across as a friendly, down-to-earth character who freely signed autographs and chatted with diners about anything and everything. Comedian Adger Brown proved equally likeable.
Proceeds from the night, which included an auction of sporting memorabilia and fabulous three course dinner, will help nurture elite young sporting talent in the locality courtesy of the 1066 Sporting Club.
