Crawley Town manager John Gregory has put losing out on the signature of former Arsenal and youth midfielder Cedric Evina as ‘fate.’

He delayed signing the 22-year-old and ended up losing him to fellow League One club Doncaster.

Gregory revealed: “He went to Doncaster. They offered him a very good salary that we couldn’t match and we pulled out of that deal. I could have signed him on Tuesday and it would have been job done, but I left it the week. Maybe it was supposed to happen.

“I’m a great believer in fate and Doncaster came along and offered him considerably more than we were offering him. He is a young boy and I would have done exactly the same in his situation.”
