Worthing are hot favourites to win the Sussex League Division 3 West title – but need to win Saturday’s final game to make sure.

They go into the last match – at Littlehampton – 16 points clear of the only side who can pip them, Steyning.

It means a win will guarantee the title and promotion, but if they were to slip up it could let Steyning in and consign Worthing to a play-off.

In division two, Findon won by 86 runs at home to Burgess Hill but it won’t be enough to see them finishing in the bottom three.

Having been asked to bat by promotion -hasing Felbridge, wickets tumbled as they crumbled to 87 all out off 29 overs.

Dean Ghasemi top scored with 23 while Matt Vokes (16) and Mark Broxup (10) scraped into double figures.

Sebastian Pollard accounted for four batters.

Will James hit 37 for the opposition as they raced to the winning total for the loss of three wickets in 14 overs.

Fourteen-year -old Southwick player Matt Rowson’s two wickets left senior player Tom Bell full of praise, saying “He bowled two of the best overs – fast and accurate – I’ve seen from a colt in league cricket.”

Skip Harry Dorgan said: “We were put into bat and none of us managed to create an innings.

"We were always well below par, some top-level bowling from our colt was one of the positives.”

Brighton and Hove 6th v Southwick 2nd

Wickers travelled to Patcham with four debutants – U13s, Zak Murray and Pacey Hull, Pacey’s dad Jon, and the first adult woman to play for the club in a league game, Alison Palmer.

But an excellent B&H side clubbed their way to 300-1 then bowled out Wickers for 59.

Southwick girls

With girls’ sport on the up, Southwick CC wanted to test the water and see if they could attract girls to a coaching session with a view to making it a regular event.

Nearly 20 girls turned up, ages ranging from seven to 12, to take part in a number of coached activities that explained cricket fundamentals and led to some fun games.

Feedback from the parents and girls was very positive – there is lots of interest to continue playing and girls wanting to know how to get involved with the club.

The club were delighted with the positive response from girls and parents – all wanted more sessions and enjoyed the games. More girls-only sessions will follow.
