The technical name for this is a ‘perigee syzygy full Moon’ but it is better-known as a supermoon. While there are 13 full lunar months in the year, the supermoon is something of a marvel as the moon will appear bigger and brighter.

The first supermoon in 2023 will take place on August 1, 2023.

During a supermoon, the Moon appears up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter compared with when the Moon is furthest away.
