South Chailey beauty school owner and husband to appear on Channel 5 programme

Katy Jobbins, founder of Wivelsfield-based Permanent Makeup Training Academy, is to feature on Channel 5’s prime time, inspirational life swap TV show, Rich House, Poor House.

The 35-year-old mum-of-three was approached by a television production company, Emporium Productions, last year, days after winning the Mentor of the Year award at the East Sussex 2019 Women in Business Awards.

She has been working alongside her husband, Paul Bate, in the field of permanent make-up for the past decade. He has been previously named Mid Sussex Business Personality of the Year.

Paul, who is also to appear on the programme, said: “She was asked to be the only female entrepreneur for the new series. At just 35, we also think she is the youngest female entrepreneur to ever feature on any of the show’s sixth series.

“Our experience seems very insignificant compared to the struggles that our fellow communities and indeed the whole world has faced since filming the show, which only filmed in February, before the COVID-19 restrictions came into place and seems almost a lifetime ago now.

“However, we really enjoyed the experience and all of us including the children, learnt some lifelong lessons on how to really appreciate the smaller things in life, which has come in handy with the current situation we are now all facing.”

Channel 5’s Rich House, Poor House explores the UK’s wealth divide and whether or not money truly can buy happiness.

Families from opposite ends of the economic spectrum trade lives for seven days.

On the programme, which airs at 9pm on Channel 5 on Sunday, May 3, Katy, Paul and their three children swap their lives, incomes and homes for a week with single mum-of-one Nadine from Cosham.

In just a few years, Katy and Paul had built up more than 50 permanent makeup clinics around the UK including London Harley street.
