Mystery surrounds the discovery of a mallet found buried in woodland near Horsham.

Police say the mallet had a ‘red substance’ on it.

It was found in woodland near the Downs Link in Southwater yesterday (Thursday).

A police spokesperson said: “The mallet was reported to have a red substance on the handle.
