Fire breaks out in St Leonards flat

A fire broke out in a block of flats in St Leonards during the night.

The incident happened in Charles Road just after 12.40am today (Wednesday, March 24).

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said: “We sent three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform.

“There was a fire in the kitchen of a basement flat in a four-storey building.

“We used four breathing apparatus, one main jet and one hose reel jet.

“All persons were accounted for and the fire was deemed accidental.
