LETTER: Chest pains? Get to A&E

I had been experiencing chest pain on and off for about two weeks, believing it to be indigestion. On Wednesday, February 15, I felt a much stronger '˜indigestion' pain.

My husband insisted that I phone the GP, who told me to call an ambulance.

“Surely not,” I said. “I feel better now.”

She said: “Well, if you feel okay to go by car do so, but get yourself to A&E.”

My husband drove me there and I was seen immediately. ECG showed some sort of problem so I was kept in overnight to await an angiogram.

On Thursday, February 16, I was on the angiogram table when I had what can only be described as a serious heart attack. I had no previous indication of heart problems.

Thanks to Dr Sukhbir Dhamrait and his team, prompt action was taken, a stent was fitted and I am still here to tell of the wonderful treatment I received right from entering A&E at Worthing Hospital, being on the emergency floor and Courtlands ward.

But for their kind attention and skill my family could easily have been arranging my funeral. Instead I am looking forward to cardiac rehabilitation.

I would implore anyone who has chest pains, even if they think it’s only indigestion, to get to A&E, where they will soon be able to tell if there is a problem or not.
