Long delays on A27 after collision near Hove

Both carriageways of the A27 north of Brighton and Hove were closed earlier today (February 28) after a car was in collision with a lamppost.

Sussex Police said it was called at 11.43am to an incident on the westbound carriageway of the A27.

Police remain at the scene close to the turn off for Hove.

A police spokesperson said a car travelling westbound had collided with the central reservation and a lamp post, which then fell onto the carriageway.

The spokesperson added: "We closed both carriageways initially, but the eastbound carriagway is now fully open.

"Local diversions are in place."

UPDATE: At 3.47pm, Sussex Police said: "The A27 at Hangleton is now fully reopen after a car collided with the central reservation earlier today. The driver, who was uninjured, has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and released under investigation.
