Police have arrested a man after a woman in Haywards Heath was assaulted and had dog waste thrown at her.

The woman called police after the incident, during which she was slapped, Inspector Darren Taylor of Mid Sussex Police said.

He added that a man was arrested and has been interviewed and released under conditional bail while further enquiries are carried out.

Inspector Taylor said: “We really do take all reports of domestic abuse really seriously. You can’t have stuff like this going on.”

The incident happened around 2am on Saturday, November 21, he added. The victim is being supported and safeguarding measures have been put into place.
