Business owners hear about ‘exciting’ project in Newhaven

The new project would involve shipping containers being used to create the Railway Quay Hub, Lewes District Council said.
It said it hoped that these would be used for an information hub for visitors, a cafe or refreshment facility for residents and visitors and a space for cycle hire.

Hide AdThe online event took place on Friday, September 25. Individuals or organisations with experience in food and beverage, sustainable travel or those who are passionate about Newhaven and its regeneration were invited to attend.
Councillor James MacCleary, leader of the district council, said: “We are looking for brilliant individuals and organisations that could help us deliver this exciting project and so I encourage you to come along to our online event to hear more about the opportunities to be involved.
“Getting this key site developed for the town is a big priority for us. As a Newhaven resident, I’m really looking forward to having a coffee next to the river next year.”
Lewes MP Maria Caulfield said: “Having my office in Newhaven I know that we have many fantastic businesses and entrepreneurs here who could really make the Railway Quay Hub a fantastic place for local residents and visitors. I would encourage anyone with an interest to attend the online event to find out more.”

Hide AdChris Ketley, chairman of the Town Deal Board, said it is hoped that the proposed project will be funded by money from The Towns Fund.
He added: “The government grant would provide a fantastic opportunity to regenerate the site and we are looking forward to hearing from local business owners and entrepreneurs that would like to get involved.”
Railway Quay has a long industrial heritage and was purchased by Lewes District Council through Local Growth Funding in 2017.
It is one of the eight sites that make up the Newhaven Enterprise Zone which is committed to generating economic growth within the town.
